Privacy Policy

JapaCounter ("we", "our") respects your privacy. This policy describes what data we collect and how we use it.

Data we collect

• Account information: When you create an account, we store the email and display name you provide, and an optional profile photo. This is used to identify you and for your profile and leaderboard.
• Profile details: Optional fields such as ista deva and kula deva, if you choose to set them.
• Mantras and sessions: Your mantra names and text, session counts, and practice history. This data is stored on your device and backed up via iCloud. We do not store your mantras or sessions on our servers.
• Leaderboard: If you are signed in, we store your display name and aggregate practice totals (e.g. total counts, total time) in our systems for the in-app leaderboard. You can avoid this by not signing in or by using a display name you are comfortable with.
• Subscription status: We record whether you have Premium (e.g. from an in-app purchase). Payment is handled by Apple; we do not receive or store your payment details.

How we use your data

We use the data above to:

• Provide and improve the app (e.g. history, leaderboard, iCloud backup).
• Unlock Premium features when you have an active subscription.
• Operate authentication and account management.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising or to track you across other apps or websites.

Where your data is stored

Mantras and sessions are stored on your device and backed up via iCloud (Apple). Sign in to iCloud on all your devices to see your data everywhere. We do not store your mantras or sessions on our servers.

Account and leaderboard data are stored using Google Firebase (Authentication and Firestore). Your profile (email, display name, profile photo) and, if you use the leaderboard, your display name and practice totals are stored there. Data may be processed in regions used by Firebase. The mantra library and app configuration are also read from Firestore.

Your choices

• You can delete your account at any time from within the app: open the Profile tab → Delete account, then confirm. This permanently removes your account and leaderboard entry from our servers. Your mantras and sessions on the device remain until you delete the app or remove them.
• You can turn off "Sync with iCloud" in the app if you prefer not to back up your data to iCloud (data will stay only on that device).
• In-app purchases are managed through your Apple ID; you can cancel subscriptions in your device Settings.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will be revised when we do. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
